Go Green and Save Green

Go Green and Save Green

There was a time when the push for turning green was all about helping the environment and the future of our planet. These days the reasons to go green are a lot greater than that, in fact, when you turn your attention to living a greener lifestyle, you will be saving a lot more than the planet, you will be saving a few dollars.

Lower fuel costs

Unless you work at home, there is a good chance that you will need to do a little commute. Gas prices are high enough already without having to add that expense to your monthly budget. Consider carpooling with someone else heading in the same direction. If that is not an option, and you work close enough, try using a bike, your health and the planet will both thank you for it.

Improve your energy consumption

High-energy usage is detrimental to the planet and your budget. The good news is that you have the power to do something about it. Spend a little to save a lot, begin by installing a programmable thermostat and stop adjusting the setting. Look for any leaks that may exist in the home or business and plug them. Try using sensor recognizing switches so your lights turn off when you leave the room.

Eat healthy

Many diets consist of large amounts of meat, and this industry by itself is a major contributor of greenhouse emissions. As human beings there are other ways for us to secure our iron and protein. Meat is also one of the more expensive items on your grocery bill. Consider planting your own vegetable garden where you can control the use of unwanted chemicals. This will help you cut your food bill in half, and your health will immediately improve. If you insist on eating meat, take your business to a store that promotes natural healthy animal growth.

The value of water

There is no question that the human body needs water, so don't waste it. High water consumption in the shower can increase your water bill and your energy bill through the hot water heater. Drinking a lot of water is a good thing, but rather than purchasing bottled water by the case and having to think about where your used plastic bottles will end up, consider investing in a water filter to add to your faucet instead. You need the water, but the planet does not need to increase the landfill.

Potencies in Homeopathy

Potencies in Homeopathy

Potency selection is a rather complex aspect of  homeopathy. Potency selection will vary based on the approach, such as Cell Salt care, organotherapy, nosode therapy, general clinical management. The rationale for these differences relate to focus of management(acute vs. chronic) and theoretical basis(edition of Organon directives).

  • Cell Salt care protocols describe low potencies of 3X or 6X for the salts to resolve deficiencies(chronic tendency) and higher potencies of 30C, 100C, 200C to resolve excesses(shorter term or slight acute tendency).
  • Organotherapy or sarcode care protocols include low potencies of 3X, 6X,6C. Potencies are generally low since time is needed to wear down an organ in most cases.
  • Nosode care protocols include low potencies of 6C in general since deficiencies are corrected.
  • General clinical management involves the most controversy. Homeopaths who favor the earlier editions of the Organon of Medicine will tend to use very low potencies(3X,6X) for chronic conditions and midlevel potencies of 30C or 100C for acute conditions or constitutional/miasmatic care. Homeopaths who favor the later editions of the Organon of Medicine will tend to favor midlevel potencies, usually for chronic conditions,  and very high potencies of 1M, LM, 10M,usually for acute. But these high potency providers will use the very high potencies for serious chronic conditions such as cancer management and for miasmatic/constitutional care. Working with higher potencies is far more challenging as the client is at greater risk for healing crises, etc.

Attention: Paleo Dieters- Looking to move toward a vegetarian approach?

Getting tired of all the animal protein in the diet? Or are your kidneys showing the strain? Or are you looking to cut costs? Your carbon footprint?

Two complete proteins that are healthy, versatile and allowed in the Paleo diet are the avocado and the hemp seed. Both of these foods contain a healthy fat profile, are complete proteins and can easily be used in many ways, both sweet and savory depending on the flavoring profile. Start experimenting with these healthy, complete, Paleo-friendly foods and add variety to your diet, while improving your health.

Quitting Smoking?
Thinking of quitting smoking after the holidays?

You may want to consider the use of acupressure to help you control  your urge to smoke and to help you relax.

Ear Lung Point Location
Here  is a link to an ear map and the ear to help you understand where to put the tape seeds.
Ear Map
Ear Anatomy
The lung area is really that entire bottom bowl that is the space beneath the tragus and anti-tragus and below the concha(see figure 904 of the ear anatomy description). In the narrative above the figure you will read that the upper section of the concha(cymba concha) is what is labeled in the figure as concha and that the lung area is in the cavum concha.

Method
  • Use whole mustard seeds found in your supermarket spice area and any first aid tape, such as transpore, etc.
  • Place 3-4 seeds on the sticky side of the tape and apply to the lung area when it is clean and dry. Apply pressure to this area with the fingertip throughout the day and when you have the urge to smoke.
  • Remove the tape seed before bed. In the morning apply a fresh set of seeds and tape to the other ear. Alternate the ears daily to decrease possible irritation and discontinue if you see signs of irritation such as redness, etc.

You will want to have a complete plan for quitting but you probably will find this ear lung acupressure to be a useful aspect of your smoking cessation work.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation(PMR) is a simple technique to help you to eliminate the stress from your day. You can perform it during an acutely stressful time or each night before bed to help you transition to sleep. The technique is very simple. Starting with your feet and working your way up to your head, you contract and relax muscle groups in sequence. The entire process can be completed in just a few minutes.

Going Green Is So Much Simpler Than Most People Think

Going Green Is So Much Simpler Than Most People Think
 by: Collin Rojas

An increasing number of people are now wanting to do their part to save the planet due to the worsening problems caused by global warming. Unfortunately, numerous people assume that going green is costly and time consuming. Read on to discover several immediate things you can do to get on on the path to living green.

Recycling is the top way to start. A lot of people continue to place glass and aluminum items in their normal garbage even though recycling is not that hard to do today. In the US, it's not hard to locate a trash service that offers glass and aluminum recycling choices. Many people still continue to discard these items even though recycling bins are not hard to find. It merely takes a few minutes to wash off the cans and bottles before placing them into the recycle bin.

Newspapers are another item that overburden our landfills. Virtually all people will merely take their daily paper and toss it in the garbage when they are done with it. But, there are many other uses that you can get out of your newsprint other than poring over it it. Did you know that you can keep your windows clean using newspapers? If you're tired of seeing small white fragments and streaks on your windowpanes after you clean them with paper towels and cleaner, try to use old newspapers instead. Several community groups run regular paper drives. Merely compilepile all of your old newspapers, put them in a stack, and see if the paper drive organizers will come to your location and pick them up.

One more thing that could help you to start to live green is to begin walking a bit more. Lots of people routinely drive short distances merely to buy one thing at their local corner market. If you just walk to the store, not only could it take less time, because you won't have to locate a parking spot, but you will be saving money on gas and helping to save planet Earth by not burning those fuels.

If you wish to save even more on gas, take the chance to car pool when you can and only mow your lawn two times a month instead of weekly. A gorgeous lawn is good to have but skipping an additional week before you mow again shouldn't significantly affect it. Using a manual push mower like those more normally used many, many years ago will help to save the environment even more. Numerous hardware shops still carry this type of mower.

When people make up their mind to try green living, it's easy to make a few lifestyle modifications that will benefit our environment. Likewise, you can find lots of info all over the Internet on other ways to start living green, you only have to look for it.

The Sustainable Path

The Sustainable Path
By: Robert Barton
Sustainability starts with you, from the smallest change you can make in your own home or office can have a huge effect further up the chain. Simply by buying the right products you can help you and your family save heaps of money, and also help the environment through these purchases.

Natural and alternative health and lifestyle products can really benefit you and your family.

Did you know that the industry in health foods and natural products in their retail and business opportunity form have increased by 75% in the last 5 years alone?

This article has a few simple answers to why the natural more healthy alternatives can deliver much greater health benefits than just going and getting some vitamins from your local drug store.

Many elements and chemicals that help our body function and boost our immune system can only be found in a "stable" form in the foods and drinks that occur naturally. By taking these natural chemicals from their natural states and trying to "bottle" it is virtually impossible without the use of further adding dangerous additives and manmade chemicals.

Furthermore, the organic industry, which seems so new, is coming back after about 50 years of "conventional" farming to boost the sustainability and production needed in agriculture.

For some reason people think that organics has never existed before and it was only about 50 years ago that we didn't have pesticides, fertilisers and herbicides and relied purely on the co-dependant relationships of ecosystems.

People again are realising the benefits of organics only after 50 years of cancer causing chemicals being passed along in our food. It is strange as many people who have had the initial stages of cancer have converted to organics for added support to their immune systems.

From organics to sustainable lifestyles which includes our complete environment from building to water to energy production to health... everything is a dynamic system and will become increasingly important as global warming becomes more of a problem.

This leads me onto the next step, sustainable building. Did you know that your home can become a toxic and uncomfortable environment for you and your family if you don't think consciously about the types of products you use within and around your house?

Many insulation and cabinet maker products use materials that contain a vast amount of formaldehyde which is a very toxic and carcinogenic chemical. Paints and finishes can contain high levels of VOC (volatile organic compounds) which have been proven to cause serious health issues and lead to "sick house syndrome". Building material used for the structure of your home can be cheap and cause the temperature in your home to be very uncomfortable and the air conditioner you use to make up for this costs you hundreds of dollars every year.

Might as well give up hey? No way...

There are so many resources and products available at your request that can dramatically change the negative aspects and will improve your overall wellbeing aswell as your families, whilst at the same time improve the quality of products that are good for the environment also. For instance, there are many paint companies with low to zero VOC products, insulation has been developed using cellulose (recycled paper basically) with no formaldehyde, energy efficient air conditioners exist and many products that are affordable but have the qualities to increase the comfort of your home.

The main point is...  If you buy for the health and comfort of you and your family, the results will be beneficial to both you and the environment. This is what I mean by a dynamic system. Sustainability isn't about knowing everything about what does what and where it goes, it is simply about working with your local environment to produce the best possible outcome that WILL save you money, your health and the environment.

I suggest you start to educate yourself in the simple parts of sustainability and even if you save a litre of water a year or have an organic meal at least once every 2 months, you will be on your way to sustainability.
